What is LLM visibility?

Concept

LLM visibility is a brand's presence in the answers of large language models, measured across a representative set of questions.

How it differs from ranking

In organic ranking the goal is to appear high in a list of links. In LLM visibility the goal is to be included in the synthesised answer the model generates: often there is no list, just a few names and a few sources. Optimising for one does not guarantee the other, because models choose what to cite on signals of their own, not on SERP position alone.

How it is measured

Bikma measures LLM visibility every day on ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Gemini as standard models, with Perplexity, Copilot, Claude and Grok on the Partner and Corporate plans. Because models often disagree on whom to cite, comparing several LLMs is the only way to find the empty spaces.

Worth remembering

LLM visibility is a relative figure and a moving one: read it over time and against competitors, not as an absolute value.
