What is generative engine optimization and how does it improve AI visibility?

Concept

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the discipline of optimising content and sources in order to be included in the answers of generative engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI.

What GEO acts on

Unlike SEO, GEO does not aim to climb a list of links but to become part of the synthesised answer. The main levers are the sources models cite (often authoritative third-party domains) and the clarity with which the brand is described across the web. The research behind the Bikma method shows that how well those levers work changes by question category: there is no single recipe.

The role of measurement

GEO without measurement is blind. Bikma provides the intelligence that says which questions count, where the brand is absent, which sources feed the answers and how sentiment is shifting: that way GEO work starts from real priorities and its effect can be measured.

Worth remembering

GEO is complementary to SEO and AEO and shares a foundation with them: the quality and standing of the sources.
